L.E.G.I.O.N. '94 #62

L.E.G.I.O.N. '94 #62 (December 1993)
title: "Big Babies!"
writer: Tom Peter
penciler: Stephen Jones & Tom Tenney (18-24)
inker: Dennis Kramer
colors: Gene D'Angelo
letters: Gasper Saladino
editor: Dan Raspier
cover: Barry Kitson

Recap: Bek invited representatives from numerous worlds to come to a celebration on the planet Rigon to discuss how the L.E.G.I.O.N. might meet their security needs. Dox was furious because he saw it as creating a powder keg, but Bek was not around to hear his complaints because he stowed aboard Captain Comet and Marij'n's ship as they headed for a romantic getaway.

The planet Motus sent their representative Gigantus, who appeared to be a huge, fierce warrior on screen, but turned out to be smaller than almost every member of L.E.G.I.O.N.  Nevertheless, he managed to create a huge disturbance by picking fights, including against Telepath. The festivities were also crashed by the insurgent General Zaaaq, who had a vendetta against his rival, Affr Tyunng. The team struggled in battle, but were saved when Lobo arrived to take on Zaaaq and his forces. After their victory, several worlds were interested in signing up with the L.E.G.I.O.N., and the representatives of Motus even turned over their champion Gigantus to be a new L.E.G.I.O.N. recruit as a good will gesture.

Sarcasm Kid's 2020 Holiday Commission

2020 sucked, we can't kid ourselves about that. We all had the pandemic going on, some of us either had COVID or someone we knew had COVID, most of us on here genuinely cannot stand the new Legion comic, and I know I'm reeling because my grandfather recently died.

But there's still Christmas, and the holidays, so here. I commissioned my friend dklem to do X-Ray Girl, one of the newest Legionnaires created by Ryan Sook. I know most of us aren't fond of Bendis's Legion, but Sook's art has (aside from Karate Kid's racist design) been nice to look at. A lot of our speculation the past year was regarding whoever this girl was and unfortunately she still hasn't been given a chance to shine.

I felt at least she should be given her due.

I've been commissioning dklem a lot this past year and she's done a number of sketches for me through ko-fi regarding all my different interests.

Here's to Super-Bloggers and here's hoping 2021 is better.

writer: Tom Peyer
penciler: Arnie Jorgensen

editor: Dan Raspier

Recap: A L.E.G.I.O.N. squad arrived on Dexll to investigate concerns over a group of phantom-like beings that had settled on the planet. They had set up a circus pavilion and welcomed the youngest inhabitants of Dexll to visit. Although they had shown no hostile intent so far, the Dexllian parents were becoming concerned over the strong bond that had developed between the outsiders and their children.

Phase noticed that the phantom-like beings had powers very similar to hers and one of them claimed to know her. He said she was one of them and had disappeared some time ago. She joined him at their encampment and found herself welcomed by everyone. Soon, children all over Dexll began disappearing. The L.E.G.I.O.N. rushed to the pavilion and saw a long line of children entering the main tent. The children appeared to be in a trance of some sort and started to transform into phantoms just like the visitors. Once all of the children entered the tent it disappeared, leaving behind the L.E.G.I.O.N., who were uncertain how to even began to follow without Phase.

Phase was at home at first, but discovered a creature, Bhargast, feeding off the energy of one of the children, which causing the child to age. She learned that all of the phantoms were children who had once been abducted and served him out of fear. She tried to rally them to help her fight Bhargast, but at first they were too scared. After witnessing her bravery, the eventually stood up to and defeated Bhargast. After they defeated the creature, the children were returned safely to their homeworld.

The Return of the League of Infinity (#3)

“The Perplexing Puzzle of Pilot X-U”
Supreme-The Return #4
(March 2000)
Writer: Alan Moore
Artist Rick Veitch
Review: Emsley "Ultra Fan" Wyatt

The story opens with a typical Silver-Age style splash panel.

It tells us that the story will show us how the League of Infinity recruits new members.  The applicant we see is “Pilot X-U”, who seems to shop at the same store as the Legion member Wildfire.  It also presents itself as a “reprint” for “Advantage Comics, March 1963”.  This, of course is a total fabrication.

Recap: The Green Lantern Corps, the Darkstars, and the L.E.G.I.O.N. faced the Triarch, the supposed Gods from Maltus, the same homeworld as the Guardians and the Controllers. The Triarch were made up of Quarra the Creator, Archor the Sustainer, and Tzodar the Destroyer. They had slain their own father, Daalon, and then disappeared. They were supposedly returning to fulfill their destiny of destroying Maltus, which would lead to the rebirth of the galaxy.

Dox discovered that they were not true Gods, but instead creations of their "father" Daalon, a scientist. Dox also found Daalon alive, but in suspended animation in the mountains of Maltus. He freed Daalon, apparently expecting him to help defeat the Triarch. Instead, Daalon led the Triarch in a renewed attack on Maltus. During the battle, the L.E.G.I.O.N.airre Bertran Diib was killed. Surprisingly, the Triarch began to have second thoughts after seeing the extent of their destruction. They turned on their creator and sacrificed themselves so that their energy can be used to restore Maltus. In the aftermath, the Corps, the Darkstars, and the L.E.G.I.O.N. came to an agreement over the extent of their various jurisdictions to avoid conflict in the future.

Recap: Several planets came under attack by mysterious, powerful beings. After Green Lantern encountered one, the Guardian's recognized the name of Quarra and were terrified that it meant the return of the Triarch, a race of Gods from Maltus, the same homeworld as the Guardians and the Controllers. Long before those races existed, the Triarch slayed their own father, Daalon. The Triarch were made up of Quarra the Creator, Archor the Sustainer, and Tzodar the Destroyer.

On the planet Elyrion, the Darkstars battled Archor and suffered several casualties. Meanwhile, the L.E.G.I.O.N. were setting up a new base on Maltus when they come under attack by Tzodar. Green Lantern arrived to help but did not fair well. When Hal awakened, he found a very angry Vril Dox waiting for him. They argued and Dox ordered Lobo to subdue Hal. Eventually, Comet interrupted Lobo's battle because they received new orders and were told to leave Jordan to the newly arrived Darkstars, led by Colos. However, they were more concerned with seeking revenge on the Triarch and suggested an alliance with Jordan. Meanwhile, the Controllers learned of the Triarch's return, and since their legends said the Triarch must succeed at their mission to usher in the rebirth of Maltus, they sent other Darkstars to stop Jordan. The two teams of Darkstars battled as Killowag arrived with reinforcements. This was just the distraction Dox hoped for so he could have time to locate the father of the Triarch, who was imprisoned but still alive. Dox appears to have assumed that Daalon would help them but he turned on our heroes and rallied his creations to fulfill their destiny.
