The Silver Sword is really Trebia Rijleigh of the planet Buenapar. She was an academic and historical "nerd" and a member (a "knight") of the Society of Historical Speculation. In recognition of her well-researched and well re-crafted documentary on a historical battle called "the War of the Roses," Trebia was presented with a set of armor and the historically accurate but recreated sword by her fellow Society members.
As soon as she picked the sword up, it triggered her meta-gene: she could then wield it with immense skill, strength, and endurance. In her "cosplay," the Silver Sword easily bested all SHS members in mock battle. Her fame spread among historian culture, and she eventually faced and defeated cyborg prototype sword-fighters. It was at this time that the Silver Sword decided to become a legitimate crime-fighter.
On one of her first cases, the Silver Sword shut down a supply chain of illegal goods on her planet. This operation was actually a part of Universo's far-reaching illegal activities. When he heard of the Silver Sword, he had her kidnapped and deposited on the Forgotten Planet for a potential invasion of Oa.
It was on the Forgotten Planet that the Legion met the Silver Sword. She was freed from Universo's mental control by Saturn Girl, then helped her and the other kidnapped heroes escape from his trap. The Silver Sword was returned to her home planet and was never seen again, in any continuity.
Silver Sword appeared only once. At that time her name, powers, and background were not revealed. None of the information from this Who's Who entry was ever revealed in the pages of a Legion story.
After Infinite Crisis, Silver Sword's original history has presumably been more or less restored.
