Happy Birthday, Chemical King!

According to the 1976 DC Calendar, today will be the birthday of Condo Arlik, better known throughout the galaxy as Chemical King.

Chemical King was the 26th member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and served with distinction for nearly three years. He made the ultimate sacrifice to save Earth when the power-mad dictator named Deregon started the detonation of a nuclear power sphere. Chemical King used his powers to slow the reaction and to absorb the remaining radiation into his own body.

Each episode Rob Kelly and The Irredeemable Shag cover a single issue of the legendary 1980s series, Who’s Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe. This time around they chat about WHO’S WHO: Volume XXIII, discussing characters such as the The Teen Titans, Deathstroke the Terminator, the planets Tamaran and Thanagar, plus a few Legion of Super-Heroes entries. They then wrap up the show with their Who’s Who Listener Feedback!

First up is Tellus, one of the last members of the Legion of Super-Heroes from The Original Series. Art by Steve Lightle, who with Paul Levitz was the co-creator. We will talk about Tellus at length on his own Who's Who Profile Page. Click to enlarge.

Next up is Tharok by Mark Bright & Karl Kesel. Tharok is the leader of The Fatal Five, arguably the Legion's greatest foes. He is the 30th Century version of the Teen Titans' Cyborg, yet Tharok's cybernetic side was nowhere near as "advanced" as Victor Stone's. Click to enlarge.
