Overall Summary:

Krypton Girl and the Legion of Super-Heroes

Title: Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #47 - "The Super-Life of Lois Lane!"

Imaginary stories were a frequent idea for DC during the Silver Age. Predating Elseworlds and the overall Multiverse theme, they were stories characters thought up in-universe about what might've been or could've been. Largely, the concept was used to tell tales about who Superman or Batman might marry.

Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane #47 gave us a typical Imaginary Story operating on the role reversal concept. It also gave us a short appearance of the Legion of Super-Heroes. This particular Imaginary Story is one of my favorites, and served as the basis for an alternate Earth concept I've worked on for several years.

This gave us an idea of how things might go if Lois Lane was the hero, but also gave us a sneak peek at Lois Lane as a Legionnaire. It's minor, but manages to stand out due to Lois not having much interaction with the Legionnaires despite them being good friends of Clark.

Garfield in the 30th Century!

It happened in the Legion of Super-Heroes' third volume, #32 to be exact. Heroes from the 30th Century had been kidnapped, depowered and kept prisoner on a planet. Heroes like Saturn Girl, Dream Girl, Atmos, and... Jon Arbuckle from Garfield?

Or possibly his descendant. But that would mean he procreated. Which doesn't seem likely from the strips, does it?

I wonder what his powers are. And if he'd have any chance at all in a Legion try-out.

Would they drum him out as soon as he started having conversations with his imaginary cat?

Or NOT so imaginary, as the Legion books would have it.

One theory is that the glacial pace at which the comic strips advance the story kept Jon AND Garfield young and alive for a thousand years. Garfield himself put in an appearance earlier in Legion of Super-Heroes vol.2 #300!

Looks like he's one of the Heroes of Lallor there! As is... Spider-Man!?

Well, that one I can't explain.

Overall Summary: 
The Time Champions from Generations Shattered #1 have been scattered all over various eras, hopeless to face off against the Big Bad to try to rectify his messing with the time stream. Fortunately for them, Dominus is too impatient to just let them die off, and sends minions against them. That eventually allows the heroes to regroup and find a way to restore the time stream. What, you thought DC would leave it broken? 

One of the Time Champions, you may recall, is the Superboy from the Bronze Age Legion of Super-Heroes, and one of Dominus' lackeys is former Legionnaire Nemesis Kid!

The Legion on Super-Team Family The Lost Issues

Imagine living in a world where all comic characters were “under one roof,” where you could walk into a comic store and find a book in which your favorite characters could team up or battle without regard for who owns what. 

Well, we don’t live in that world, but we can get a tantalizing peek at what it might look like thanks to Ross Pearsall over at https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/.

He takes characters and situations from all of the major comic book companies, puts them in the blender and creates some pretty tasty concoctions, And he puts a new one up every freakin’ day!  Iron Man meets Green Lantern.  The Justice League battles Ultron. Adam Strange and Doctor Strange (Long-lost brothers).  And one of my personal faves, The Creeper versus The Green Goblin. 

And it isn’t just the “big boys” you’ll find here.  No character or book is too obscure to escape Ross’s treatment.  The X-Files and Swamp Thing.  Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Vampirella. Quantum Leap and Sliders.

Some of the covers are laugh-out-loud funny.  Others make you wish that you could actually read the darn story.  But this is, after all, a Legion of Super-Heroes site.  So let’s look at some of his Legion-related covers....starting with one from last March, which inspired this article: The Legion vs. The Avengers! I'd buy that for a dollar all right!

Overall Summary: 
Kamandi is rescued by Booster Gold and Skeets as something very similar to the anti-matter fields that wreaked havoc during the Crisis begins to destroy all of their Earth After The Great Disaster. When Booster is injured, Kamandi is then tasked by Skeets to take over for him. Their mission: to collect various champions from various time-zones to create an army to defeat the villain behind "the Goneness." One of those selected for this Task Force is Legion of Super-Heroes member Superboy!

It’s been a weird time for Legion fans. The release of the Bendisboot has gotten mixed reactions from veteran Legion fans, who have complained about yet another continuity reboot starting everything over. DC seems to have recognized this, which would explain why they featured a Bronze Age-styled Legion tale in the From Beyond The Unknown 100-Page Giant, and this Silver Age-styled Legion story in DC Cybernetic Summer.

“Summer Lovin’” is written by DC editor Liz Erickson, with pencils and inks supplied by mah gurl Nik Virella. The Legion roster consists of Superboy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, and Brainiac 5. Liz and Nik have provided us a tale set during the Silver Age in both tone and appearance (beyond just the costumes).

Admittedly the story’s shorter and goes in a different direction than I expected, but it’s still charming and rather bittersweet in a way that is easy to swallow. I can’t say much more than that because I don’t want to spoil anything.
