Threeboot: Supergirl and the Legion #23 Variant Cover

I'm taking a week off from reviews as I enjoy a brief family vacation.

Had I not be on vacation, this would be the week I would review Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23.

That issue had a superb variant cover by Adam Hughes showing Supergirl riding a meteor.

It is just a gorgeous cover, one of my favorite Supergirl covers of this time period. I am not a fan of the belly shirt costume but this is beautiful. But there is more to the story.

First off, Hughes said that the cover was inspired by another cover he did ... Valor #8.

In this instance, Valor is surfing a meteor rather than riding it.

They do make nice book ends. It is also fascinating to see Hughes style back then and compare it to his work now.

The cover became immortalized on a t-shirt, one I actually own and wear with pride to conventions, family get-togethers, etc.

It has even inspired cosplay and photo shoots. Go ahead ... head to Google.

As I said, I love this cover. I know I have shared this a number of places. But not sure if I did here.

I have this cover triple signed by Mark Waid, Adam Hughes, and Barry Kitson. I met all three back at the Baltimore Comic-Con in 2010. I love this little bit of my collection.

  2. I love that cover too. At the time DC released a poster of the cover and I have it on my wall.

  3. By the way, what does Supergirl wear under that micro mini skirt? I really (honest, really) never wondered before, but the way she's sitting on that meteor, I wonder now.

  4. Hey all! Thanks for comments!

I wanted folks interested in the cosplay to google. I wasn't going to post those here.

The under the skirt question is interesting. Early on, when the art was more salacious, there were lots of up skirt panty shots. Pretty gross. Later, Jamal Igle made the skirt longer and had her wear bike shorts beneath.

  5. It's not gross. Are you retards that drool over the simple view of a girl in leothars? Ever gone to see gymnastic or athletism? Or in the street for that matter. Obscenity is not in the body but in the eye.
