Who's Who: Bounty I

Legion Log
Bounty was a hardened, professional bounty hunter who specialized in bringing in fugitives, dead or (sometimes) alive. He met the Legion when the United Planets hired him to bring in the creature called the Composite Legionnaire. This was a monstrosity formed from the accidental merging of Saturn Girl, Lighting Lad, Colossal Boy, and Shrinking Violet.

While the Legion tried to capture and cure their friends, Bounty was more interested in challenging it. In fact, when the Composite Legionnaire proved difficult to kill or capture, Bounty began to make the fight with the creature personal. Intent on killing it, Bounty attempted to use an illegal nuclear weapon on it/him/her. The Legion stopped him and he was thrown in prison for his recklessness.

Who's Who in the Legion revealed a back story for Bounty that linked him to Dawnstar's home world of Starhaven, as a way to explain his tracking powers.

After the so-called Five-Year Gap, Dawnstar was possessed by an entity called Bounty who ripped off her wings and joined the Legion under that name. If there is a connection between it and the original Bounty, it was never revealed.

After Infinite Crisis, Bounty's original history has presumably been more or less restored.

Superboy/Legion of Super-Heroes #234

Bounty is hired by the UP to capture the Composite Legionnaire,
but is defeated and captured by the Legionnaires

  1. The Quicker Picker Upper!

Man, did Jack Abel ink with tar? His pages always seem so HEAVY with blacks.

  2. I love how anytime there is a composite being created by merging various people, the costume always reflects it.

  3. I would love a story where it's revealed he is just a ordinary soldier taken over the Bounty entity.

  4. Just noticed this composite creature is essentially Imra, Garth & Gim.Wonder if that's what inspired the idea of Validus being a Ranzz?

  5. Y'know I never knew about this guy when I reading the 1989 Legion, there has to be a link. Around the same time in LEGION '89 there was also a bounty hunter named Ice Man (I think?) who also turned to be a possessing entity. I assumed that was linked.

    Ah well we'll never know.
