Micro Lad first came in contact with the Legion when he applied to take Shrinking Violet's place as the Legionnaire from Imsk. Due to the Legion's policy on unique abilities, however, he was summarily rejected. He banded together with five other like-minded would-be Legionnaires and challenged their six counterparts to a fight, winner(s) to be Legionnaire(s). Because the six "Super Rejects" had stronger control of their natural abilities, the six Legionnaires relied on skill and teamwork to defeat them.

Micro Lad did not take his defeat at the hands of Shrinking Violet and her teammates well. He returned to Imsk, but instead of trying to find another positive outlet for his abilities, he joined up with the ultra-nationalistic Imskian revolutionary forces, determined to overthrow Imsk and force it out of the United Planets.

With this plan in mind, Micro Lad and his allies arranged to kidnap Shrinking Violet. They also hired a Durlan actress named Yera to impersonate Shrinking Violet so that they could extract important UP knowledge from her brain. Yera's impersonation was discovered, the Legion rescued the real Violet, and they captured Micro Lad.

Micro Lad escaped from his imprisonment and was on the run when the Legion of Super-Villains located him and asked him to join them.

Micro Lad battled determinedly during the LSV's attempt to take over Orando, but he and his group were eventually defeated by the Legion of Super-Heroes. Micro Lad was one of the members who was able to return to "our" dimension thanks to the space-craft belonging to Zymyr. However, he was captured by Lighting Lass immediately after their return.

Micro Lad was one of the inmates on Takron-Galtos when the prison planet was threatened by the anti-matter wave during the Crisis. He was moved to the new prison planet, Labyrinth, even though he tried to escape en route on two separate occasions.

In the Reboot, he was known as Micro, and again failed to make the cut. Feeling he should have been picked at Imsk's representative without a try-out, he killed another candidate. Violet defeated him in a subatomic fight, and won her place in the Legion.

In the Threeboot, Micro Lad was the name preferred by Gim Allon rather than Colossal Boy, as he came from a race of giants, and he could, from his perspective, "shrink down" to normal humanoid size.

After Infinite Crisis, Micro Lad's original history has presumably been more or less restored. He was a member of Superboy-Prime's Legion of Super-Villains during the so-called Final Crisis, and then of  Saturn Queen's. Another LSV recruit, Akka, murdered him because he dared interrupt
