Legion Log
Polecat made his one and only appearance when he responded to an open call for new Legionnaires. At that time, Dynamo Boy had infiltrated and rejected all of the other Legion members in an effort to destroy the Legion and its reputation. However, Polecat's ability to produce a repellent scent was not deemed worthy of membership, so he was summarily rejected.
The information shared in this Who's Who entry was not shared during Polecat's try-out. According to this information, he was a mutant born with his powers and resigned to a life of loneliness because of them.
A polecat is a mammal of the order Carnivora and sub-family Mustelinae. They are broadly similar to ferrets and weasel, but only distantly related to skunks. Despite its name, it is more closely related to dogs than to cats. In some parts of Canada, the term "polecat" is slang for electric utility linemen.
During the so-called Five Year Gap, Polecat was captured and experimented upon by the Dominators. Mind-wiped and used as a pawn along with other metahumans, he ended up on New Earth after Earth's destruction and was hopefully deprogrammed by health professionals.
Polecat does not appear in the Reboot nor the Threeboot.
After Infinite Crisis, Polecat's original history has presumably been more or less restored.
Polecat has a cameo in "The Substitutes", an episode of the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series, where he is a Legion applicant.

ReplyDeleteDidn't Polecat realize that, in space, no one can smell your stench?
That guy should a candidate for the Subs Auxillary.
ReplyDeleteNo wait! Guys I think he was one of the people the Dominators captured for experimentation in the FYL stories. Didn't he fight the Legionnaires in Vol.4 #40?
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter! Such appearances sometimes fly under the radar so well, we (I) fail to noting them.
DeleteOH CRAP I FORGOT he also had a couple of cameos in the cartoon as a Legion applicant
DeleteAdded! Hopefully that completes his entry!
