Father Sven Kalikos was away from the Astronomy Research Station on Trewsk when it was destroyed by solar flares. Overcome by "survivor's guilt," Father Kalikos flew his shuttle towards one of Trewsk's suns; this was noticed by the mysterious cosmic entity he dubbed "Omen," who saved Father Kalikos' life and transformed him into Prophet.

Prophet had a modicum of Omen's abilities, including the ability to survive in airless space, transverse long distances quickly, and release solar bursts. Prophet, aware of the potential harm that Omen could cause to other inhabited areas, escaped from his benefactor. He intended to warn humanity and organize a response against him. However, one of the first planets Prophet arrived on was Khundia, which considered Prophet's appearance alone an act of war.

The Legion of Super-Heroes was called in to try to mediate between Prophet and the Khunds while near all-out war erupted on Khundia. Prophet was safe due to the cosmic abilities he possessed, although the Khunds tried nearly all of their arsenal to try  to kill him (and the "invading" Legion). Soon after the incident began, Omen himself arrived. In an effort to understand humankind,  Omen then absorbed Prophet.

Omen reciprocated against the Khunds' attack, causing untold damage to Khundia. Dream Girl then activated the Khunds' "negaton bomb," which opened a dimensional rift of some kind. Before he had any opportunity to communicate who he was or what he wanted, Omen (and the absorbed Prophet) disappeared into this rift.

Prophet never returned, nor did he appear in the Reboot or Threeboot.

After Infinite Crisis, Prophet's original history has presumably been more or less restored.
