Who's Who: Echo

by Siskoid

Real Name: Myke-4 Astor
Super-Power(s): Sonic blast
Planet of Origin: Rimbor
Legion Seniority: Echo's membership in the Legion during the Five-Year Gap was revealed in Legion of Super-Heroes (v4) #28. He is considered the era's sixth recruit.

Legion Log
Echo first appeared as a back-up member of the Adult Legion of Super-Villains. He and his team were defeated by Superman and the Adult Legion.

During the original Crisis on Infinite Earths, this version of the LSV traveled to the distant past and tried to ensure their survival by changing history. While the main members tried to kill Batman and Superman's parents so they can raise the heroes as their own, Echo is called in to help defend against Superman and Batman. Having failed, the Adult LSV's time line is destroyed in the Crisis.

In the one and only resulting timeline, Myke-4 Astor was born in the war-torn Aetian sector, uncomfortably sandwiched in space between the Khundian Empire and the Dominion, constantly changing hands between the two. At the time of his birth, his world, Calish-Aetia, was under Khund control. Their doctors discovered that he possessed special sonic powers and he was turned over to Khund scientists for experimentation. This ultimately left him unable to breathe without an oxygen-mask - which the Khunds attatched to his face. When the Khunds set him free, Astor, now Echo, ran with youth gangs committing petty vandalism against Khundish authorities. He made his way to Earth after a bounty was placed on him, and came to the attention of the Science Police and the Legion during the so-called Five-Year Gap. His concept of right and wrong wasn't necessarily as clear-cut as the United Planets' standards, but Polar Boy nevertheless gave him a chance and he joined the Legion of that era. He resigned after the Black Dawn fiasco and dropped out of sight.

During Final Crisis, Echo appeared as a member of Superboy Prime's Legion of Super-Villains. His fate after his defeat has not been revealed.

  1. The one-panel Legionnaire. When he made that appearance in the 5YL story, I was going nuts trying to figure out who he was. I was positive I'd seen him somewhere, but I couldn't figure out where and couldn't find him in Who's Who.

  2. He's not even in Who's Who in the Legion, I know!

  3. He also made an appearance in the two-page spread of Legionnaires from LO3W #5, which kind of cemented the fact that he was a Legionnaire.

  4. He appears in the Legion Poster by Giffen (below Brainiac 5)
