Legion Log
Teenager Flynt Brojj was one of the Legion's greatest fans. He came first in a contest to raise the most funds for the United Planets Charity Drive and won "A Day With The Legion." During the escorted tour of the Legion headquarters, he was instrumental in helping the Legion defeat a Witch-Wolf, which turned out to be psychological threat from an unknown assailant. Because Flynt did not have a Legion flight ring, he was not susceptible to the mental attack that had targeted the rings. Flynt's clarity helped the Legion break free from the mental illusion that they were under.
This bravery and level-headedness earned Flynt a life-long friendship with the Legionnaires. To show their appreciation, the Legion invited him to visit with them on a semi-regular basis.
A few years later, during one of Flynt's visits, he was one of the witnesses as Brainiac 5 blew the headquarters up and instantly replaced it with a new version. He was summarily impressed.
Flynt Brojj as a character was named by writer Cary Bates to honor two of the more active Legion fans of the early Seventies, Mike Flynn and Harry Broertjes.
After the so-called Five-Year Gap, Flynt Brojj was found in Dominator pods; he had been experimented upon and apparently developed sensory enhancement and deprivation powers. Like other found in the pod, he may have been shuttled to New Earth and undergone treatment to break Dominator programming.
Flynt Brojj appears neither in the Reboot nor the Threeboot.
After Infinite Crisis, Flynt Brojj's original history has presumably been more or less restored.

This, in a nutshell, is why I so dislike V4.
ReplyDeleteFlynt Brojj was such an innocent character, just a normal guy who really, really liked the Legion. He was LITERALLY a proxy for us fans -- he'd been named after two of us, for God's sake -- and they crapped all over him just to drive home what a crapsack universe it'd become.
My Legion was always, if nothing else, optimistic. Even when things were at their worst, there was hope. And there was fun.
With V4, things started off horribly and just kept getting worse. The only bright point I can recall is Tenzil Kem's new mindset -- the guy not only saw the fourth wall, but he ATE IT.
I speculated at the time if it was maybe a lingering aftereffect of his post-Miracle-Machine insanity, but decided I didn't give a damn.
I also wondered, at the time, abut the names "Squire Burroughs" and "Myg," wondering of they were connected to Wildfire and the second Karate Kid, but I was so bummed out by V4 that I never bothered to look into it.
Anyone wanna throw me a bone?
Well, Myg (Karate Kid II) was definitely in the Dominator tanks. They brainwashed him and he would later be taken into custody and hopefully deprogrammed.
ReplyDeleteSquire Burrows was Drake's brother.
Thanks, Siskoid. (SMH) In retrospect, I'm amazed I stuck with V4 as long as I did. I think I was hoping that I'd get MY Legion back. but it kept getting worse and worse and worse...
